Company, Trust, & Business Tax Return

Running a business through a company, trust or partnership brings more than one tax return. There are distributions to plan, loans to track, ASIC obligations to meet and deadlines that don't wait for a job to finish. Get it wrong and the cost can be far more than the tax itself.

At MB Accounting & Tax, we prepare business tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and sole traders across Norwest, the Hills District and Australia-wide. We specialise in construction, trades, legal and real estate businesses, and we understand how those industries actually run, from project-based cash flow to trust accounts and subcontractor reporting.

All tax returns are prepared under the supervision of the Accounting Academy, a registered tax agent (TAN 26233096).

Company Tax Returns (CTR)

We prepare and lodge annual company tax returns and financial statements, and we look after the details that often get overlooked:

  • Company tax returns and year-end financial statements

  • Base rate entity assessment (25% vs 30% company tax rate)

  • Franking account and dividend records

  • Division 7A loans between the company and its directors or shareholders

  • ASIC annual review and company register maintenance

Trust Tax Returns (TTR)

Family and discretionary trusts need careful planning before 30 June, not just a return after it. We help with:

  • Trust tax returns and financial statements

  • Trust distribution planning and resolutions made before 30 June

  • Distributions to individual and corporate beneficiaries

  • Unit trusts and hybrid trusts

  • Trust tax records and beneficiary statements

Partnership Tax Returns

  • Partnership tax returns and profit allocations between partners

  • Partner income schedules to support each partner's individual return

  • Advice on whether your structure still suits your business

Sole Trader Tax Returns

  • Business and professional items schedules

  • Business deductions, vehicle expenses and home office claims

  • Instant asset write-off and depreciation

  • PAYG instalments and GST reconciliation

Industry Expertise

  • Construction and trades: Taxable Payments Annual Report (TPAR), subcontractor payments, and project-based income and expenses

  • Legal firms: tax returns that work alongside your trust accounting obligations

  • Real estate agencies: commission income, trust account reconciliations and agent structures

Business Tax Return FAQs

Why choose MB Accounting & Tax for my business tax return?
Because you'll get one-on-one support from someone who understands your industry. We don't just process your figures at year end. We go through your records with you, flag anything that needs attention, like Division 7A loans or trust resolutions, and help you plan ahead so there are no surprises. And because we also offer bookkeeping, payroll and BAS, your books and tax return are handled in one place.

What's the difference between a CTR and a TTR?
A company tax return (CTR) is lodged by a company, which pays tax on its own profits. A trust tax return (TTR) is lodged by a trust, which usually distributes its income to beneficiaries, who then pay tax on it in their own returns. Each structure has different rules and deadlines, and we can help you understand what applies to yours.

When do trust distribution resolutions need to be made?
Generally by 30 June each year, depending on your trust deed. If resolutions aren't made on time, the trustee can be taxed at the top marginal rate. We'll remind you ahead of time and help you prepare them.

Can you help me choose the right business structure?
Yes. If you're starting a business or reviewing your current setup, we can explain the pros and cons of operating as a sole trader, partnership, company or trust. We also handle ABN and company registration as an ASIC agent. See our [business setup] services.

Do you only work with businesses in Norwest?
No. We're based in Norwest and meet clients across the Hills District in person, and work with businesses Australia-wide online.
